My belief is that different styles of counselling suits different people and situations, which is why I prepare a unique counselling style for each person. Counselling is best suited when it is tailored to each individual client depending on their issues and which way the client would feel more comfortable to work through their experiences.
In the counselling room, you the client, are the most important person and the sessions are your sessions to do and discuss what you want. I am there soley to help you look at the issues closely to see what changes need to happen to help you resolve the issues.
We have now opened our Counselling Room in Fisher Street Galleries, Carlisle last year, allowing clients to come to us in the centre of the city. Ideal location close to car parks and all transport links. This room also offers us the facility to offer evening and weekend appointments.
In 2018, Mental Health Awareness Week has been focused on stress. “Research has shown that 16 million people experience a mental health problem each year,” explains the MHF, “and stress is a key factor in this.” As part of its attempts to further open dialogue about mental health, the foundation has organised a so-called “Curry and Chaat” initiative – where people get together with friends and enjoy their company over a curry, raising money for good causes.
Counselling often requires you to discuss upsetting emotions and painful memories. Bringing up these thoughts can feel difficult to start with and, initially, you may feel worse. This process is necessary to move forward and in time, you should start to feel better.
To get the most from your counselling sessions you should aim to make them consistent. Some sessions will feel more helpful than others, but it is important to realise that everything your counsellor is doing is designed to help you in the long run, even if it doesn't feel like it in the beginning.
It is also worth remembering that counselling is not a quick fix and that your counsellor will not be able to tell you what to do. The counselling process requires a strong relationship between you and your counsellor and a degree of effort on your part - together these two elements create a successful method to help you resolve your issues.
